Founded in Toronto in 1993, Southern Currents Film & Video Collective is a non-profit media arts organization dedicated to promoting Latin American, Latinx, and Indigenous voices through film, media arts, and public cultural programming. Through the annual aluCine Latin Film + Media Arts Festival and year-round activities, Southern Currents presents independent cinema, exhibitions, performances, workshops, and artist talks that foster cross-cultural dialogue and community engagement. As Canada’s longest-running Latin American media arts festival organization, aluCine has showcased hundreds of films and media artworks by emerging and established artists from across the Americas and the diaspora. Southern Currents is committed to accessibility, equity, and creating inclusive platforms that support diverse storytelling and strengthen connections between artists and audiences locally and internationally.
